If either your furnace or air conditioning unit is less than 10 years old then it makes sense to replace both your furnace and AC unit. But, if both the machines are working for more than 10 years then you’ll better off replacing both of them. It’ll not only save your money and energy in the long run but also makes your residential and commercial HVAC systems last longer. Having an improperly sized furnace and air conditioning unit will lead to inefficient cooling/heating, increased wear and tear on the system, and higher energy bills.
